Former President Donald Trump has announced that Peter Navarro, a key figure in his first administration, will return as Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing. In a statement, Trump praised Navarro’s contributions during his first term and emphasized his commitment to advancing American manufacturing and trade.
“Peter Navarro, a man who was treated horribly by the Deep State, or whatever else you would like to call it, will serve as my Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing,” Trump said. “During my First Term, few were more effective or tenacious than Peter in enforcing my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American.”

Navarro played a significant role in renegotiating trade agreements such as NAFTA and the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS). Trump also credited Navarro with driving forward tariffs and trade actions at a rapid pace, aligning with his administration’s agenda to protect American workers and industries.
The Senior Counselor position will build on Navarro’s experience in the White House and his extensive background in trade policy and economics. According to Trump, Navarro’s responsibilities will include advancing and communicating key elements of the Trump agenda, including manufacturing, tariffs, and trade.

“Peter is not just a superb, Harvard-trained economist but also a noted author of more than a dozen bestselling books on strategic business management and unfair trade,” Trump said. “He did a superb job for the American people in my first term, and I am confident he will do even better in this role to protect American workers and truly Make American Manufacturing Great Again.”
Navarro’s appointment signals a continued focus on the trade policies that were central to Trump’s first administration. His expertise and aggressive approach to tariffs and manufacturing are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the economic strategy of the incoming administration.
