Residents Express Relief and Support for Federal Intervention
In response to an escalating violent crime wave, President Donald J. Trump has authorized the deployment of federal resources, including the National Guard, to Memphis, Tennessee.
The decision comes as the administration intensifies its efforts to combat what it describes as a crisis fueled by failed policies. Memphis, which currently has the highest violent crime rate in the nation, has seen a surge in carjackings, shootings, and other violent acts, leaving residents on edge and fearing for their safety.

Memphis residents and business owners are expressing support for the federal intervention.
“We’re grateful for the National Guard coming,” said the owner of a local tax service.
Another resident shared the widespread fear, stating, “It’s just so dangerous that you can’t get out of your car. You can’t go to the grocery store.”
One man, who was awakened by a “barrage of gunfire” into his home, noted, “Everybody turns the cheek when it’s not in their ZIP code, but it’s becoming a problem for everybody.”

“I honestly thought he was going to kill me,” said a 60-year-old Memphis carjacking victim who was body slammed to the ground and left with a head injury.
The situation is reflected in numerous recent incidents, with victims sharing harrowing accounts.
A Memphis mom described being robbed and carjacked at gunpoint, saying, “I got two guns put in my face within five minutes at two different locations… I was scared and I was just hoping he didn’t shoot me.”

The move to deploy federal troops is seen as a direct response to the community’s plea for “more boots on the ground,” a sentiment echoed by the director of a Memphis-based crime prevention organization. The constant stream of violent crime headlines from local news outlets, including numerous reports of shootings and carjackings, underscores the urgent need for action.
The deployment aims to provide immediate relief and a tangible show of force to help curb the violence that has gripped the city for months.
