President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform on Monday to weigh in on the future of South Carolina’s representation in Washington following the loss of Senator Lindsey Graham.
Trump revealed that he has formally reached out to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to suggest a specific successor for the vacant seat. The choice is deeply personal to the late lawmaker’s family.
“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina,” Trump wrote. “This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”
Beyond the personnel recommendation, Trump used his platform to push for legislative action that he tied directly to Graham’s legacy. He called on lawmakers in Washington to advance a specific piece of legislation aimed at global technological and financial competition.
“In honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, a big supporter, the U.S. Senate should pass the Clarity Act,” Trump posted.
The president linked the legislation to broader national security and economic concerns, specifically pointing to aggressive moves by foreign adversaries to dominate emerging markets and tech sectors.
“China, and many other countries, would like to take complete and total control of this major financial “happening,” as well as A.I., where we are now leading, but where they are fighting hard,” Trump wrote. He concluded his statement with a direct warning to lawmakers: “Don’t let China win on either subject!!!”
Governor McMaster has not yet publicly responded to Trump’s recommendation or announced his official appointment for the interim Senate seat.
