Donald Trump on Tuesday reaffirmed his endorsement of U.S. Representative Byron Donalds for governor of Florida, doubling down on a backing he first issued last year.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised the Naples Republican as a candidate who would work to advance conservative policies in the state.
“Highly Respected Congressman Byron Donalds is running for Governor of Florida, a State that I love, and WON BIG, in 2016, 2020, and 2024,” Trump wrote. “I know Byron well, have seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and he is a TOTAL WINNER!”
Trump added that as governor, Donalds would work to secure borders, cut taxes, and protect the Second Amendment. “Byron Donalds will be a truly Great and Powerful Governor for Florida, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!” Trump stated.
The announcement reinforces Trump’s initial February 2025 endorsement of Donalds, who is running in the race to succeed outgoing Governor Ron DeSantis.
Donalds welcomed the renewed support, stating he was “incredibly honored” to receive Trump’s backing. “I will never stop fighting for the state of Florida!” Donalds said in a statement released by his campaign.
According to campaign officials, Donalds has built a broad coalition of support. His endorsement list currently includes tech billionaire Elon Musk, U.S. House leadership, 17 members of Florida’s congressional delegation, and a majority of Florida sheriffs.
