House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) cast doubt on Tuesday over the authenticity of a controversial birthday note from President Donald Trump to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The note, contained within a “birthday book” for the disgraced financier, was recently provided to Congress by Epstein’s estate.

The note, allegedly penned by Trump, features a lewd message written within the outline of a woman’s body and includes Trump’s purported signature. When asked by a CNN producer whether he believed the note was real, Speaker Johnson responded, “I don’t. They say it’s not.”

Earlier, on his way out of a press conference, Johnson was asked if he had seen the note and drawings, to which he replied, “I’ve heard about it. But no. And the White House says it’s not true.”

The Epstein estate, acting on a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, delivered a trove of documents on Monday that included the “birthday book.”

This isn’t the first time the note has made headlines. When it was initially reported by The Wall Street Journal earlier this year, Trump and the White House vehemently denied its authenticity. The president subsequently sued the newspaper for defamation, seeking $10 billion in damages.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed these denials on social media after the document’s release to Congress, stating, “It’s very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it. President Trump’s legal team will continue to aggressively pursue litigation.”
