Trump Blasts “Overrated Lightweight” Bill Maher In Scorching Truth Social Post

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to deliver a scathing, nearly 500-word critique of comedian Bill Maher, dismissing the “Real Time” host as a “jerk” and a “highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT.” The lengthy post detailed a private dinner the two shared at the White House in the spring of 2025, an encounter the President now characterizes as a “total waste of time.”

The friction appears to have boiled over following Maher’s Friday night broadcast, where the comedian mocked a previous social media post from the President regarding Canadian ice hockey and Chinese influence. Trump clarified in his Saturday statement that his comments about China terminating the Stanley Cup were intended as a joke to highlight Canada’s shifting geopolitical alliances.

“Well, he [Maher] went on and on about the Hockey statement, like ‘What kind of a person would say such a foolish thing as this,’ as though I were being serious when I said it,” Trump wrote. He went on to criticize Maher’s relevance, stating, “Fortunately, his Television Ratings are so low that nobody will learn about his various Fake News statements about me. He is no different than Kimmel, Fallon, or Colbert but, I must admit, slightly more talented!”

During the post, Trump recounted the specifics of their 2025 meeting, claiming the comedian reached out through a mutual friend. According to the President, the HBO host appeared “extremely nervous” and possessed “ZERO confidence in himself,” allegedly asking for a “Vodka Tonic” immediately upon entering the Oval Office to soothe his nerves. Trump claimed Maher admitted during the meal that he was “actually scared.”

“In one respect, it was somewhat endearing! Anyway, we had a great dinner, it was quick, easy, and he seemed to be a nice guy and, for his first show after our dinner, he was very respectful about our meeting,” the President noted. However, he expressed frustration that the show eventually returned to a critical tone, which he described as “the same old story — Very boring, ANTI TRUMP.”

The President used the platform to contrast Maher’s criticisms with a list of administration milestones, citing a “50,000 DOW,” the “7,000 S&P,” and “Lowest Inflation in YEARS (1.2% for last three months!).” He also mentioned “Eight War Stoppages” and the deaths of Soleimani and al-Baghdadi. “With everything I have done in bringing our Country back from ‘OBLIVION,’ why wouldn’t he be [respectful]?” Trump questioned.

Trump also took aim at fellow Republicans who have recently praised Maher for his frequent critiques of far-left ideology. “Bill Maher is a highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT, and Republicans should stop using him to show how the Left is coming over our way — Our Base, the Greatest of All Time, laughs at your weakness when you do it!” he wrote, adding that Maher suffers from “a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS!).”

Maher, who supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, spent much of his Friday episode targeting the administration and its supporters.

During his monologue, he mocked conservative reactions to Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show—which Trump had previously labeled “absolutely terrible”—remarking, “A lot of conservative America is very butt-hurt these days.” Maher also included jokes regarding the President’s age, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and mentions of Trump in the Epstein files.

The President concluded his remarks by claiming Maher had asked to return to the White House for a Christmas party but never attended.

“Regardless, I’d much rather spend my time MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN than wasting it on him,” Trump wrote. Neither the White House nor representatives for “Real Time with Bill Maher” provided immediate comment on the social media exchange.
