Trump Breaks The Gridlock: “Unify Now” On Clean FISA Extension To Guard Against Terror

President Donald Trump issued a call to action on Truth Social Wednesday, directing House Republicans to pass a “clean” extension of FISA Section 702.

The President confirmed he is working directly with Speaker Mike Johnson, Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, and Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford to move the legislation through the House of Representatives this week.

The push for a unified vote comes as the bill faces a key test in the House Rules Committee today. Trump’s statement emphasized the need for a straightforward renewal of the surveillance authority, which is used to monitor non-citizens outside of the United States.

“I am asking Republicans to UNIFY, and vote together on the test vote to bring a clean Bill to the floor,” Trump wrote. “We need to stick together when this Bill comes before the House Rules Committee today to keep it CLEAN!”

In his message, Trump distinguished between the foreign surveillance authorized under Section 702 and the domestic authorities used during the 2016 Russia investigation. He argued that while he believes FISA was “illegally and unfortunately” used against him by the FBI in the past, the current foreign collection program is vital for the military.

“When the Dirty Cop, James Comey, the failed Head of the FBI went after me, he was using FISA Title I, the Domestic Collection, not FISA 702, the Foreign Collection, which needs to be extended today,” Trump stated.

The President noted that his position followed conversations with military officials who described the tool as a necessity for protecting troops and stopping foreign terror attacks. He expressed a willingness to overlook personal concerns regarding the potential for future misuse of surveillance tools in favor of national security.

“I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country!” Trump said. “Our Military Patriots desperately need FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have had such tremendous SUCCESS on the battlefield.”

The statement concludes by calling on the House to ensure the program remains in “full force and effect,” citing its role in preventing numerous attacks against the United States and its interests abroad.
