Either former President Donald Trump has found one of his signature ways to needle an opponent. Or he has simply run out of ideas.
Trump’s campaign on Tuesday attacked his closest rival, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, for what Trump’s camp is calling “#BOOTGATE,” mocking the governor for allegedly wearing lifts in his cowboy boots.
On X (formerly Twitter), Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said, “A scathing new article from POLITICO about Ron DeSanctimnonious’ high-heeled shoes comes on the heels of an embarrassing interview on the Patrick Bet-David show that led to #bootgate trending on X.”

Cheung then added, “When asked directly about why his boots look like stilts, DeSanctus offered up the implausible explanation that he just wears off-the-rack Lucchese boots, doing major brand damage to a great American footwear company. If there are any enterprising journalists willing to contact the Lucchese press team for their thoughts on DeSanctus, they are reachable here.” That part included a link to the Lucchese company.
“In another moment of insanity, Ron offered up the laughable claim that he’s 5’11,” Cheung continued. “Instead of telling the truth and just being comfortable in his own skin, he resorts to borderline psychotic behavior by lying to the American people. Is that what this country wants in a president?”
This was from the same camp of the candidate who was ruthlessly mocked two months ago for claiming he weighed 215 pounds when arrested in Georgia for alleged election fraud.
For example, left-wing late-night host Jimmy Kimmel asked Arnold Schwarzenegger earlier this month about Trump’s claim that he weighed 215.

“You know, I don’t really know how much he weighs,” said Schwarzenegger. “I can tell you one thing, that if he would ask me what should he do for fitness, I would just say, ‘Run around yourself three times and you’re going to be in great, great shape.’”
The New York Post reported at the time that Trump’s weight in Georgia in August was 25 pounds lighter than when he appeared in court in New York just four months earlier.
“Look, we all know the way he is, and if it makes him feel good to tell everyone he weighs 215, I think everyone laughs about it because he does not look like he weighs 215,” Schwarzenegger continued. “He’s a little more like 315.”
As for DeSantis’ boots, Cheung’s statement concluded, “Soon enough, Ron is going to wish for more pudding and in-flight biohazard stories instead of having to deal with his shoes that are more appropriate for America’s Next Top Model than the campaign trail.”
But it did not end there.
The Trump camp’s obsession with DeSantis’ boots also included an email to fans, according to the Post Millennial.

“This Halloween, Ron DeSanctimonius and team woke up to the horrific sight of seeing themselves getting dunked on all over social media for Ron’s bizarre choice in footware,” the campaign’s correspondence said.
“The DeSimps melted down in defense of DeSanctimonious proving once again that they’re nothing more than DeSanctus bootlickers (literally),” the email added. “Maybe instead of focusing on lifting his height, he should focus on lifting his poll numbers.”
