The Strait of Hormuz has been declared fully open to commercial shipping for the duration of the current ceasefire, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The announcement, posted on X, specifies that all commercial vessels may now use a coordinated route established by the Ports and Maritime Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This move aligns with the ongoing ceasefire in Lebanon and addresses a primary sticking point in recent international negotiations.
The situation remains fluid as global leaders react to the shift in maritime access. In Europe, the leaders of Britain and France are currently holding a virtual summit to coordinate the restoration of shipping, with a focus on the lingering threat of naval mines in the area.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the broader diplomatic environment as “delicate and crucial.”

Speaking to lawmakers from Mersin, Turkey, Aoun emphasized that the 10-day ceasefire is the necessary “gateway” for further negotiations regarding the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the resolution of border disputes.
He noted that the Lebanese army is prepared to take a central role in maintaining order as the ceasefire period continues.
Meanwhile, President Trump posted to Truth Social, following the Iranian announcement, saying, “IRAN HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THE STRAIT OF IRAN IS FULLY OPEN AND READY FOR FULL PASSAGE. THANK YOU!”
The reopening comes after Trump previously made the restoration of the trade route a non-negotiable condition for the ceasefire. When Tehran initially failed to open the waterway following the collapse of peace talks in Pakistan last weekend, the U.S. responded by enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports.
