President Donald Trump issued a proclamation Friday designating March 2-8 as National Consumer Protection Week 2025, framing consumer rights as a bedrock of American freedom and economic vitality.
In a statement from the White House, Trump highlighted his administration’s early actions—curbing cryptocurrency regulations and mandating transparent drug pricing—as cornerstones of a broader push to shield Americans from fraud, bolster privacy, and keep the economy “free and prosperous.”

“Consumer rights are a cornerstone of American freedom, a building block of the American economy, and a foundation of American success,” Trump declared, emphasizing the need to protect transactions, personal data, and privacy in a “dynamic market economy.” He pointed to two signature moves: halting “aggressive regulatory overreach” on cryptocurrency to foster digital innovation, and signing an executive order to ensure prescription drug ads deliver “honest and accurate information” without misleading consumers. “Consumers deserve honest and accurate information to make decisions,” he said, tying the drug price transparency order to his goal of “making America healthy again.”
The proclamation, signed on March 6, aligns with National Consumer Protection Week’s tradition of uniting federal and local agencies with consumer groups to educate Americans on threats like scams and cyberattacks.

Trump urged citizens to tap resources from the Federal Trade Commission and spread awareness in their communities, warning, “We cannot afford to neglect the importance of an informed and protected consumer.” He pledged that every federal action under his watch would prioritize “our rights, our privacy, and our Nation.”
The crypto rollback, enacted shortly after Trump’s January 20 inauguration, aims to reverse Biden-era rules he claims stifled a burgeoning industry—part of a tech-friendly agenda backed by allies like Elon Musk.
The drug pricing order, meanwhile, targets Big Pharma’s advertising practices, a nod to Trump’s first-term battles over healthcare costs. Both moves, he argued, empower consumers while flexing U.S. global leadership.
Issued in his 249th year of American independence, Trump’s proclamation blends economic nationalism with a personal stamp—closing with his signature flourish.
As the week unfolds, it’s a call to action and a flex of his second-term priorities, with consumer protection as the latest arena for his “America First” playbook.
