The violent security breach at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner has prompted President Donald Trump to call for the immediate dismissal of a lawsuit delaying the construction of a new, high-security ballroom on the White House grounds.
The president’s Sunday morning statement on Truth Social argued that the failed assassination attempt at the Washington Hilton—which saw an armed man tackled through a checkpoint—would have been impossible to carry out within the confines of the executive mansion’s gated complex.
The suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, was arrested Saturday evening after storming the lobby outside the hotel ballroom. Security personnel opened fire as Allen forced his way toward the gala, where the President, First Lady Melania Trump, and the entire cabinet were assembled.

The resulting chaos forced the immediate evacuation of the president while guests scrambled for cover under tables. Investigators revealed Sunday that Allen, a mechanical engineer and former tutor, had traveled across the country by train with multiple firearms and knives, specifically targeting members of the administration.

“What happened last night is exactly the reason that our great Military, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and, for different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been DEMANDING that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built ON THE GROUNDS OF THE WHITE HOUSE,” Trump posted.
He noted that the new facility includes the “highest level security features” and, unlike public hotels, has no guest rooms located above the event space for “unsecured people to pour in.”
The president’s message specifically targeted a legal challenge that has hampered the project’s progress.

“The ridiculous Ballroom lawsuit, brought by a woman walking her dog, who has absolutely No Standing to bring such a suit, must be dropped, immediately,” Trump wrote, adding that the project is currently on budget and ahead of schedule despite the litigation. He insisted that the facility “cannot be built fast enough” to prevent future security lapses.
While Secret Service Director Sean Curran maintained that the “multilayered protection” at the Hilton ultimately worked by neutralizing Allen before he reached the president, the breach has reignited a fierce debate over the safety of presidential appearances at public venues.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed Sunday that Allen had been staying as a guest at the Hilton to bypass initial perimeter checks. The suspect is currently uncooperative and is
