President Announces Monday Press Conference to Address ‘Beautification’
President Donald Trump has doubled down on his pledge to take action in Washington, D.C., expanding his focus from evicting the homeless and jailing criminals to a broader “renovation” of the nation’s capital.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump announced a press conference for Monday at 10:00 A.M. EST, where he plans to discuss not only crime but also “Cleanliness and the General Physical Renovation and Condition” of the city.
In his post, Trump directly criticized D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, stating that she “is a good person who has tried, but she has been given many chances, and the Crime Numbers get worse, and the City only gets dirtier and less attractive.”

The president’s claims contradict official figures from the city’s police department, who say that violent crime is down by 26 percent in the first seven months of 2025 compared to last year, and that overall crime has decreased by about 7 percent. Mayor Bowser recently stated on MSNBC that the city is “not experiencing a crime spike.”
Trump’s post also included a criticism of a “$3.1 Billion Dollars” renovation of the Federal Reserve building, which he claimed could have been done for a fraction of the cost.
He drew a parallel between his promised crackdown on crime and his previous border policies, stating, “Just like I took care of the Border, where you had ZERO Illegals coming across last month, from millions the year before, I will take care of our cherished Capital, and we will make it, truly, GREAT AGAIN!”

The White House has not yet provided details on the legal authority Trump would use to implement these changes, as the president’s control is largely limited to federal property.
For a full federal takeover of the city, Congress would likely have to pass a law revoking the legislation that established local elected leadership. The upcoming press conference is expected to provide more information on the president’s plans.
