In a shift from the partisan gridlock that has defined recent weeks on Capitol Hill, President Donald Trump used the White House Congressional Ball on Thursday to predict a new era of cooperation on health care reform.

Addressing a room filled with lawmakers from both parties, the President suggested that Democrats and Republicans are on the verge of working together to solve the nation’s health care challenges.

The comments came just days after the Senate voted down competing proposals from both sides of the aisle, leaving the path forward unclear.

The administration is now signaling a fresh approach to break the stalemate.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the White House intends to release details of a new plan “very soon,” though specifics remain under wraps.

The timing is critical. Without legislative action, millions of Americans face the prospect of significantly higher insurance premiums in January when enhanced subsidies for the Affordable Care Act are set to expire.

The lapse would hit pocketbooks immediately at the start of the new year, adding urgency to the administration’s push for a deal.

While Thursday’s remarks offered optimism, the mechanics of a bipartisan solution remain to be seen. Following the failure of recent votes, both parties have retreated to their corners, making the President’s call for unity a notable pivot as the clock winds down on the current legislative session.
