Trump Maintains Blockade On Iran While “Strait Of Hormuz” Reopens For Global Trade

President Trump announced today that while the “Strait of Iran” is now open for international commerce, a U.S. naval blockade will remain strictly in place against Iran itself until a final deal is reached. In a recent update on Truth Social, the President clarified that the opening of the strategic waterway does not signal a total easing of pressure on Tehran.

“THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS COMPLETELY OPEN AND READY FOR BUSINESS AND FULL PASSAGE, BUT THE NAVAL BLOCKADE WILL REMAIN IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT AS IT PERTAINS TO IRAN, ONLY, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE,” Trump posted.

He added that he expects the process to move “very quickly” because most of the deal’s points have already been negotiated.

The statement followed a confirmation from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that the strait would be open to commercial ships for the remainder of the current ceasefire. Araghchi noted that vessels must follow a coordinated route established by Iran’s maritime authorities.

In his posts, the President referred to the waterway as the “Strait of Iran” while thanking the country for the announcement. This follows a tense week where Trump had made reopening the trade route a mandatory condition for the ceasefire.

After peace talks in Pakistan faltered over the weekend and the passage initially remained closed, the U.S. moved to enforce the blockade that Trump now says will stay in effect specifically for Iranian interests until the “transaction” is finalized.

International reaction has been a mix of relief and caution. While shipping may resume, British and French leaders are holding a virtual summit to address the physical safety of the route, specifically the threat of naval mines.

In Lebanon, President Joseph Aoun described the current ten-day ceasefire as a “delicate and crucial” window. He emphasized that the truce is the essential gateway for broader negotiations, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the resolution of long-standing border disputes.
