President-elect Donald Trump has selected Linda McMahon, billionaire professional wrestling mogul and former head of the Small Business Administration (SBA), as his nominee for Secretary of Education. McMahon will lead an agency Trump has vowed to dismantle, marking a significant shift in the department’s direction.
McMahon served as Administrator of the SBA during Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2019. Before her tenure in government, she co-founded World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) with her husband, Vince McMahon, building it into a global entertainment empire. She also made two unsuccessful bids for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut.

Her education-related experience includes serving on the Connecticut Board of Education for a year in 2009 and being a long-standing member of the board of trustees for Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. While not widely known in education circles, McMahon has voiced support for charter schools and school choice, aligning with Trump’s push for education reform.
McMahon’s nomination signals Trump’s commitment to reshaping the Department of Education. Trump has repeatedly called for reducing the department’s influence and promoting school choice initiatives. As Education Secretary, McMahon will oversee efforts to implement these reforms, though her appointment may face scrutiny given her limited background in public education.
