President Donald Trump announced on Thursday his intention to pull back the curtain on one of the government’s most enduring mysteries. In a statement posted to Truth Social, the President revealed that he is initiating a broad effort to identify and declassify government records concerning extraterrestrial life and unidentified aerial phenomena, more commonly known as UFOs.
The announcement comes after years of mounting public pressure and high-profile congressional hearings regarding what the military calls Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs).
Trump cited a “tremendous interest” from the public as the primary driver behind the move, signaling a shift toward transparency on a topic that has historically been shrouded in strict layers of national security.
In his post, Trump stated that he would be directing the Secretary of War, along with various other departments and agencies, to begin the systematic process of locating and releasing files.
The directive is set to cover a wide range of materials, including information on extraterrestrial life, UAPs, and any other data connected to these subjects. He described the matters as “highly complex, but extremely interesting and important,” concluding his message with a patriotic “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
While the federal government has released several reports and limited footage of UAPs in recent years—most notably through the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office—many enthusiasts and researchers believe a significant amount of data remains classified.
The President’s directive marks a significant escalation in the pursuit of disclosure, though the specific timeline for the release of these documents has not yet been established. Federal agencies are now expected to begin the logistical task of reviewing sensitive records to determine what can be shared with the public without compromising national defense.
