President Donald Trump has tapped Kevin Warsh to take the reins at the Federal Reserve to replace Fed Chair Jerome Powell. In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump praised Warsh as a top-tier choice who looks the part and has the track record to back it up. Warsh isn’t exactly a new face in Washington or on Wall Street.

“I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best,” Trump wrote in a social media post. “On top of everything else, he is “central casting,” and he will never let you down.”

At just 35 years old, he made history as the youngest person ever to serve as a Fed Governor, holding that spot from 2006 to 2011. During those years, he was right in the middle of the action, representing the U.S. during global economic meetings and helping steer the ship through some pretty choppy financial waters.

To put it simply, the Federal Reserve—often just called “the Fed”—is the group in charge of keeping the U.S. economy stable. They do this by deciding whether it should be cheaper or more expensive to borrow money for things like cars or houses.

Trump’s choice of 55-year-old Warsh suggests he wants someone who knows the inner workings of the system but isn’t afraid to look at things with fresh eyes. Warsh has spent time at Stanford University and worked at the White House before, so he’s used to the high-pressure world where politics and big business collide.

Before this nomination, Warsh worked with big-name investors and taught at Stanford. He even helped the United Kingdom fix some of their own banking rules, showing he has a reputation that stretches far beyond the United States.

While some people might wonder what this means for interest rates or their bank accounts, the main takeaway is that Trump is putting a familiar, experienced hand back at the steering wheel of the American economy. Now, it’s up to the Senate to look over his history and decide if he’s the right fit for the job.
