Trump Pulls Off Biggest Revenge Win Yet As Massie Falls In $32M Kentucky Primary

Rep. Thomas Massie lost his Republican primary election on Tuesday to challenger Ed Gallrein, marking a major victory for Donald Trump’s targeted campaign to remove the incumbent Kentucky lawmaker from office.

The high-stakes race concluded as the most expensive House primary in U.S. history, with ad spending topping $32 million, according to data from AdImpact. The outcome highlights Trump’s continued influence over the Republican base and serves as a direct message to party members regarding the political cost of opposing him.

Trump’s political operation initiated its campaign against Massie last year, marking the first time the former president’s team launched an aggressive effort specifically aimed at unseating a sitting Republican incumbent. Throughout the race, Trump consistently framed Massie as disloyal to the MAGA movement.

“We’re in a fight against the worst congressman in the history of our country,” Trump stated in an Oval Office video shared on Truth Social just a day before the election.

During a campaign rally held in Massie’s district back in March, Trump made his intentions clear to voters, saying, “Give me somebody with a warm body to beat Massie, and I got somebody with a warm body, but a big, beautiful brain, and a great patriot.”

That hand-picked challenger was Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL officer who positioned himself as a staunch ally of the former president. On the eve of the vote, Gallrein reiterated his alignment with the executive branch, declaring, “There has never been a more important time to stand behind our president.”

Massie defended his legislative record throughout the primary, arguing that the administration was demanding total conformity rather than policy alignment.

“I vote with the President 90% of the time,” Massie said, defending his conservative credentials. “I voted for the SAVE Act. I voted for DHS. In fact, by most scorecards, I’m the most conservative Republican, so it’s only the 10% of the time they’re mad about.”

Despite Massie’s arguments, voters ultimately chose Gallrein, solidifying Trump’s most significant victory in his broader effort to primary independent-minded Republicans.
