Trump pledges US-European aid effort as global pressure mounts on Israel.
President Donald Trump announced Monday his intention to collaborate with European allies to establish “food centers” in the war-torn strip, directly contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertions that there is “no starvation.”
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump voiced profound concern over the humanitarian crisis, stating, “Based on television, those children look very hungry. Some of those kids are, that’s real starvation stuff.”
His remarks mark a noticeable hardening of his position since departing for his Scotland trip just days ago, aligning him more closely with a growing chorus of international criticism aimed at Israel.

The President’s comments come as Israel faces mounting condemnation from some of its closest allies over the escalating humanitarian crisis. While Trump reiterated his dismissal of recognizing Palestine as a state, he appeared unconcerned by European nations doing so.
The sentiment was echoed by Starmer, who described the situation in Gaza as an “absolute catastrophe,” noting, “people in Britain are revolted at what they’re seeing on their screens.” Starmer further emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and increased aid.
The push for Palestinian statehood is gaining traction, with over 200 members of the British Parliament signing a letter advocating for immediate recognition. French President Emmanuel Macron also recently announced France’s intention to recognize the state of Palestine. Furthermore, the UK, France, and Germany issued a joint statement on Friday, calling for an end to the war and for Israel to lift restrictions on aid flow.

Trump, who disclosed a weekend conversation with Netanyahu, indicated he advised the Israeli leader to “maybe do it a different way.”
Despite Israel’s recent efforts to implement aid airdrops and open humanitarian corridors, Trump appeared personally affected by images of malnourishment, stating, “I see it, and you can’t fake that. So, we’re going to be even more involved.” He did, however, reiterate his unproven concern about aid diversion by Hamas, a claim that multiple media outlets have questioned.
As the international community grapples with the dire situation, Trump’s latest remarks signal a potential turning point in the US approach, emphasizing humanitarian intervention and highlighting a rare public divergence from the Israeli government’s narrative.
