President Donald Trump stated Monday that the ongoing military conflict with Iran could conclude within days, following a series of massive U.S. strikes that have reportedly neutralized multiple tiers of the Iranian government.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Doral Ballroom within the Trump National Doral Miami resort, the President provided an update on the status of Operation Epic Fury, which was initiated on February 28 after a collapse in diplomatic negotiations.
When questioned by a reporter on whether he expected the hostilities to wrap up by the end of this week, Trump clarified the timeline. While he did not commit to a specific 48-hour window, he indicated the conclusion was imminent. “No, but soon,” Trump said. When asked if he was referring to a matter of days, he responded, “I think so.”
The President detailed the scale of the damage inflicted by the U.S. military, claiming that the strikes have effectively wiped out key layers of the Iranian regime’s hierarchy.
According to Trump, the operation targeted both the military infrastructure and the nuclear program, resulting in a “decapitated” leadership structure. He noted that roughly 49 senior regime and military officials were killed during the opening phase of the campaign.
Among the casualties was Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The death of the long-standing leader has triggered a significant power vacuum and a subsequent leadership crisis within the country.
“Everything they have is gone, including their leadership,” Trump told reporters. “In fact, there are two levels of leadership and, even actually, as it turns out, more than that. But two levels of leadership are gone.” He characterized the strikes as “very powerful” and “very effective,” noting that many of the eliminated officials were individuals the general public had never heard of.
In the wake of these events, Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for succession, has selected Mojtaba Khamenei to serve as the new Supreme Leader.
The transition has not been without controversy; various reports have emerged suggesting that commanders from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) placed significant pressure on the clerics to ensure Mojtaba’s appointment.
Despite the new appointment, the White House maintains that the Iranian regime’s capabilities have been severely weakened.
