In a fiery address to the U.N. General Assembly, President Trump doubled down on his long-standing skepticism of climate change, labeling it the “greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world” and urging member nations to abandon their environmentally conscious policies.

He admonished countries for what he called a “green scam” that would lead to their economic failure.

“If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail,” Trump told the assembly on Tuesday. “And I’m really good at predicting things.”

The president, who has previously voiced his support for fracking and disparaged wind energy, said the U.S. is moving away from “falsely-named renewables” and encouraged allies to follow suit. He specifically called out Europe, stating that many of its countries are “on the brink of destruction because of their green energy agenda.” RELATED: Trump Addresses And Rips UN, Cites ‘Bad Escalator And Bad Teleprompter’ As Takeaways

Trump’s remarks come as the United Nations, a key proponent of global climate action, continues to release frequent reports and host annual climate summits.

The president’s speech directly contradicted the U.N.’s findings and policy efforts. He dismissed the organization’s predictions as the work of “stupid people” who were “wrong.” He pointed to earlier forecasts that some countries might be “wiped off the map” by 2025, stating, “not happening.”

Trump’s stance is further underscored by his actions. Within hours of retaking the Oval Office in January, he withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 Paris Agreement via executive order—a move he had previously made during his first term.

Additionally, earlier this month, the president attempted to revoke a 2009 determination that climate change is a danger to the public, despite the National Academy of Sciences stating that the evidence for its negative effects is “beyond scientific dispute.”
