President Donald Trump criticized lawmakers from both parties early Monday morning, claiming that political commentary from Washington is complicating his ongoing negotiations with Iran.
The president’s remarks, posted to Truth Social at approximately 1:00 a.m. Eastern Time, targeted “Dumocrats” and “various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans” for publicly debating his diplomatic strategy.
“Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us,” Trump wrote. “But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively ‘chirping,’ at levels never seen before, over and over again, that I should move faster, or move slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or whatever. Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end – It always does!”
A few minutes later, Trump added a second post, writing, “Has anyone ever seen a happy Dumocrat???”
The late-night statements followed recent military action in the region. According to U.S. Central Command, American aircraft launched strikes against Iranian radar, air defense, and command-and-control facilities. The military stated the operation was a swift response to an attack on a U.S. MQ-1 drone flying over international waters, targeting capabilities that threatened commercial shipping.
The diplomatic friction also comes as the administration reviews a proposed framework agreement with Tehran. The draft proposal reportedly includes a 60-day ceasefire, guarantees to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to international shipping, and a schedule for future talks regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
U.S. officials reported that Trump recently returned the draft with revisions, seeking stricter terms regarding Iran’s nuclear commitments and firmer guarantees for maritime access through the strait.
