President Donald J. Trump announced Sunday a sweeping reform agenda for American colleges and universities, accusing current higher education institutions of “corrupting our Youth and Society with WOKE, SOCIALIST, and ANTI-AMERICAN Ideology.”
The declaration, made on the Truth Social platform, outlines a dual approach: forceful enforcement of anti-discrimination laws and an offer of a “forward-looking Agreement” for institutions willing to align with the Administration’s vision.
Trump claimed that much of higher education has “lost its way” and is now engaging in “discriminatory practices by Universities that are Unconstitutional and Unlawful.” He promised his Administration is “fixing this, and FAST,” with the goal of restoring “Merit and Hard Work before ‘group identity.'”
The proposed reforms aim to bring about a “Golden Age of Academic Excellence,” according to the President. This new era, he suggested, would lead to “tremendous new Research and Opportunity to benefit all Americans.”
The President laid out a clear ultimatum for universities:
- Enforcement: “To those Universities that continue to illegally discriminate based on Race or Sex, we will continue our current efforts to swiftly and forcefully enforce Federal Law.”
- Voluntary Agreement: Institutions that “want to quickly return to the pursuit of Truth and Achievement” are invited to enter into a Federal agreement.
Under this proposed agreement, universities would be required to commit to several key principles:
- Civil Rights Protection: Following Federal Law and protecting the civil rights of all students, faculty, and employees.
- Ending Discrimination: Stopping “racist Admission Policies” and putting an end to “unjust and illegal discrimination in Faculty Hiring.”
- Campus Environment: Committing to an “Intellectually Open Campus Environment (including the protection of Free Speech and Debate)” and “Institutional Neutrality.”
- Affordability & Foreign Money: Taking “major steps toward Affordability for Students” and ending “the entanglement of Foreign Money in the Finances of American Universities.”
President Trump concluded the post by asserting that Americans deserve to be judged based on their “demonstrated achievements and potential.”
He stated that upon regaining this “fundamentally American Value, our Nation will be unstoppable,” promising universities that “develop the talents of our amazing young people to lead lives of Success and Fulfillment, cultivate a Love of Country and a Culture of Achievement.”
