President Donald Trump confirmed Wednesday that two National Guard soldiers were critically wounded in a shooting near the White House, revealing that the suspect involved was also “severely wounded” during the confrontation.
The incident triggered a massive emergency response in the heart of the capital earlier in the day. While law enforcement officials initially spoke on condition of anonymity regarding the victims, the President provided the first official update on the soldiers’ status Wednesday afternoon.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump condemned the attack and indicated that the victims have been transported to different facilities for trauma care.

“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” Trump wrote.
The President expressed solidarity with the security forces stationed in the capital, adding, “God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!”
Earlier Wednesday, the Joint DC Task Force confirmed units were deploying to an incident in the vicinity, and the Metropolitan Police Department acknowledged an active investigation into the shooting. A spokesperson for Mayor Muriel Bowser stated that local leaders remain in active communication with federal authorities as the situation develops.
