Twisted Child Murderer, Serial Killer Dies on Death Row Early Sunday

58-year-old, Joseph Duncan passed away early Sunday morning, after suffering from terminal brain cancer. Duncan, who was on death row, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer last year.

Almost 16 years ago, Duncan terrorized North Idaho and murdered four members of the Groene family.

In May 2005, in Kootenai County, Idaho, authorities discovered the bodies of Brenda Groene, her boyfriend, and her 13-year-old son in the family home near Coeur d’Alene. Authorities also noted that Groene’s two other children were missing: Shasta, 8, and Dylan, 9.

After an intense search for the two children, Shasta was found alive with Duncan at a restaurant in Coeur d’Alene nearly seven weeks later, and Duncan was arrested in conjunction with her kidnapping.

When the authorities rescued Shasta, she told them that Duncan said that he was bringing her back to her father because Duncan had changed his mind about killing her.

She said that Duncan stated that she taught him how to love.

Dylan’s remains were found days later in a remote area near St. Regis, Montana. Duncan was subsequently charged with murdering Dylan as well as the three victims at the Coeur d’Alene home.

After Duncan’s arrest, his DNA was linked to the murder of a 10-year-old boy named Anthony Martinez, who was killed during the time Duncan was on parole for a rape charge in Washington.

The boys body was found 15 days after he was kidnapped while playing outside of his home.

“The sun is a little brighter today,” said Anthony Martinez’s mother, Diana to KXLY about Duncan’s death, “My soul is lighter. The world is a more beautiful place without the evil that is Joseph Duncan.”

Anthony’s father Ernesto told KXLY, “While I would’ve liked to witness his execution, knowing he is now standing before God being held accountable for what he has done, what he did to my son, and the horrible crimes he committed to others, that is the real justice.”

Duncan has also been linked to the murder of two young girls in Seattle in the 1990s and the molestation of a young boy in Minnesota.
