Two-Alarm Blaze Triggers Mass Evacuation At USF St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Firefighters are currently battling a heavy commercial structure fire that broke out today on the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus, sending plumes of smoke across the waterfront.

The situation escalated rapidly to a two-alarm call, requiring a massive response from local emergency crews.

While the fire remains active, the university confirmed that the building was successfully cleared. “The building has been safely evacuated, and there are no reported injuries at this time,” officials stated in an initial report from the scene.

First responders have established a perimeter around the affected commercial facility as crews work to contain the flames.

University police and local fire departments are redirecting traffic away from the immediate area to allow room for additional engines and ladder trucks.

As of now, the university is keeping details close to the chest while the situation is fluid. “This remains an active incident, and additional details are limited. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” authorities noted.

The specific cause of the blaze is unknown, and fire marshals are expected to begin their walkthrough as soon as the site is declared stable.

Classes and nearby campus activities may face disruptions throughout the evening as the investigation begins.
