TAMPA, Fla. – An adult woman and a male suspect are both in critical condition following a Saturday morning shooting on East Oak Avenue.
Tampa police officers rushed to the 400 block of E Oak Ave just before 10:45 a.m. following reports of gunfire. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported her to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The suspect, an adult male, fled the area immediately after the shooting took place. Officers launched a search and tracked him down a short distance away, near the intersection of N 12th St and E Palifox St.
By the time officers caught up with the suspect, he was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigators state that the preliminary findings indicate the two individuals knew each other.
The Tampa Police Department says the investigation is active, and further details will be released as the inquiry progresses.
Because the incident appears to involve individuals who knew each other, authorities are reminding the public that support systems are available for anyone dealing with domestic violence. The Spring of Tampa Bay operates a 24-hour Crisis Hotline at 813-247-SAFE (7233). Individuals can also text the hotline at 813-248-1050 for safe, confidential assistance. For immediate emergencies, always call 911.
