DADE CITY, Fla. – Two separate lightning incidents sent emergency crews scrambling in the Dade City area on Monday afternoon, leaving one man fighting for his life and another hospitalized as a precaution.
Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to the first emergency call at approximately 4:50 p.m. in the 13000 block of Palmilla Drive, located within the Lake Jovita community. First responders arrived to find bystanders performing CPR on an adult male who had possibly been struck by lightning.
Paramedics took over lifesaving measures and transported the patient to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Officials have not released further updates on his condition.
Roughly 25 minutes later, at 5:15 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a second call regarding another possible lightning strike in the 14000 block of Wilson Street in Dade City. According to preliminary reports from first responders, this incident appeared to involve an indirect lightning strike.
Crews found the second adult male conscious and breathing upon their arrival. Though he did not appear to have sustained serious injuries, he was transported to a local hospital out of an abundance of caution.
Pasco County Fire Rescue noted that because both medical emergencies occurred within a short timeframe and in close geographic proximity, they wanted to clarify any potential confusion between the two events.
