Two Pole Barns Destroyed By Fire Overnight, Florida State Fire Marshall To Investigate

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to an overnight fire that burnt down two metal pole barns in Masaryktown.

Fire officials say that at 11:16 p.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a reported fire in the 1500 block of Broad Street (US41).

The call originated by a passerby on US-41. 

HCFES arrived on scene and found two large pole barn type structures on fire, extending into the nearby brush.

The two metal structures and the home on the property appeared to have been abandoned. Investigators say There was a single-vehicle located in one of the structures that was lost in the fire. 

Fire crews advanced multiple hose streams and extinguished the fire within 43 minutes of arrival on scene.

The fire resulted in a total loss of the metal pole barns, but the home on the property did not suffer any damage. Attempts to contact the owner of the property were unsuccessful. 

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshall.

HCFES responded with 4 fire engines, 3 ALS medic units, 1 Tender, 1 Brush Truck, Fire Corps, and 2 Battalion Chiefs for a total of 21 personnel.
