POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Two Polk County men with active felony warrants are behind bars after deputies pulled over a pickup truck in Lakeland on Thursday, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy stopped a blue Dodge Ram near the intersection of Brunnell Parkway and Memorial Boulevard on Thursday, August 20.
Investigators identified the driver as 40-year-old Vernard Goodman of Winter Haven. A records check revealed Goodman had an active warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon stemming from allegations that he pointed a gun at another man and threatened to kill him.
The passenger, 41-year-old Darrius Thompson of Lakeland, was also wanted on outstanding warrants. Authorities said Thompson had four active counts of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
Deputies took both men into custody without incident and transported them to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.
According to the sheriff’s office records, Goodman’s prior criminal history includes charges of battery, resisting an officer, failure to appear, criminal traffic violations, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Thompson’s criminal record includes prior offenses for lewd and lascivious behavior with a victim between 12 and 15 years old, violation of probation, failure to register, battery, resisting an officer, criminal mischief, failure to appear, and criminal traffic violations.
