The United States Navy has cleared all naval mines from international waters in the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump announced in a statement, warning that any future attempts to place explosives in the waterway would be met with immediate military force.
According to the statement, U.S. naval forces completed operations to remove and detonate all detected mines in the critical maritime transit corridor.
“I have just been informed by the United States Navy that all mines have been removed and/or detonated from within the International Waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump stated.
The announcement included a direct warning to Tehran regarding future maritime activity in the area, noting that a “Zero Tolerance policy on mine placement in full force and effect.”
“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” Trump said.
The president also stated that surveillance over the region has been heightened, citing orbital monitoring assets tracking both the waterway and specific Iranian installations.
“Through Space Force, we are watching every square inch of the Strait, as we are, also, with Pickaxe Mountain and the already destroyed three other Nuclear sites,” the release read.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, connecting petroleum exporters in the Persian Gulf with global markets. Further details regarding specific naval units involved or diplomatic communications sent to Tehran were not immediately provided.
