U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Friday that forces conducted a successful raid in Syria, killing a senior ISIS operative who posed a significant and direct threat to the security of the United States.

The target of the operation, Omar Abdul Qader, was identified as a key member of ISIS’s external operations network.

According to CENTCOM, Abdul Qader was actively involved in planning and plotting attacks against the U.S. homeland. His death is considered a major blow to the terrorist organization’s ability to execute future attacks on American soil and against U.S. partners abroad.

“We will not yield in our pursuit of terrorists seeking to attack the United States, our forces, or allies and partners abroad,” stated Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. “I commend the efforts of our skilled warfighters and all who supported them during the mission.”
