U.S. Politics: Comey Suggest Biden Consider Pardoning Trump to Promote Healing

The former head of the FBI said President-elect Joe Biden should consider a pardon for President Donald Trump.

During a book-promotion interview with the BBC, James Comey was asked if Biden should pardon Trump as President Gerald Ford did shortly after taking over for his predecessor, Richard Nixon.

“He should consider it,” Comey replied.

“Now, I don’t know if Donald Trump – he’s not a genius – but he might figure out that if he accepts a pardon, that’s an admission of guilt,” as the U.S. Supreme Court has said, Comey added.

“I don’t know that he would accept a pardon, but as part of healing the country and getting us to a place where we can focus on things that are going to matter over the next four years, I think Joe Biden’s going to have to at least think about that.”

In some respects, our nation would not be where it is without Comey.

Many liberals want to blame Comey for helping elect Trump in the first place.

Late in the 2016 campaign, he revealed that more suspicious emails believed to be linked to Hillary Clinton’s private server, and related to her dubious handling of classified information, had been found on a laptop used by her top aide’s husband.

That essentially reopened the investigation into Hillary’s email scandal, which Trump had seized on and resulted in Comey declaring her “extremely careless” in dealing with classified info but declining to recommend criminal charges.

At the same time, once Trump was in office, Comey was involved in siccing FBI agents on the bogus allegation that Trump’s campaign had conspired with Russian operatives.

Comey then furthered that suspicion through the media and became an anti-Trump activist after the president fired him early in his term, thus lending credence to other former government officials who claimed Trump was unfit for office and couldn’t be trusted to resist foreign influences.
