Senator Rick Scott Applauds Trump Administration for Delivering Critical Aid After Years of Delays
Florida’s vital citrus industry is finally receiving much-needed disaster relief block grants, a move lauded by Senator Rick Scott, who credited President Donald Trump and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins for their swift action. The aid, which growers say was long overdue, comes after years of persistent challenges including devastating hurricanes, the pervasive citrus greening disease, and what the industry described as burdensome regulations.

Senator Scott has been a vocal advocate for Florida’s citrus growers, an industry contributing over $6.7 billion annually to the state’s economy. He asserted that the previous administration had “withheld this much-needed aid for years, leaving growers without support,” and “put politics over helping Florida’s growers.”
Earlier this year, on March 12, 2025, Senator Scott sent a detailed letter to Secretary Rollins, urging the Department of Agriculture to prioritize the release of these critical funds and outlining key priorities for Florida’s agricultural community.
In that letter, he emphasized the importance of block grants for disaster aid, protecting American farmland from foreign influence, ensuring an efficient Farm Service Agency, combating citrus greening, and advocating for U.S. agriculture in international trade.

Today, Senator Scott expressed his gratitude, stating, “Florida’s citrus growers are the backbone of our agricultural economy, and they’ve shown incredible strength in the face of repeated setbacks. I’ve fought for years to get this done and deliver the resources they need to recover from storms, but was met with constant stonewalling from the Biden administration. Thank God we now have President Trump and Secretary Rollins, who are taking quick action to deliver on my request and get Florida’s agricultural community the critical resources to recover and thrive.”
He further highlighted Florida’s unique and vital role in the national food supply, particularly during winter months.

“Citrus isn’t just a part of our economy, it’s part of our identity,” Senator Scott added, emphasizing the growers’ national leadership in producing specialty crops. “From multiple devastating hurricanes to citrus greening, they’ve faced it all and kept pushing forward. I’m proud to stand alongside President Trump and Secretary Rollins as we continue to make Washington work better for families and support our vibrant agriculture industry.”
The relief is expected to provide a crucial boost to Florida’s citrus growers, allowing them to continue their recovery efforts and strengthen an industry that is integral to both the state and national economies.
