U.S. Warns “Do Not Play Games” As Iran Reportedly Targets American Bases

The State Department issued a blunt ultimatum to Tehran on Saturday: back down or face the consequences. The warning follows fresh intelligence suggesting the Islamic Republic is actively drawing up plans to target U.S. military bases, sparking fears of a violent clash in the region.

Posting in Farsi on the social media platform X, the State Department was direct regarding the threats exchanged over the last few days. Citing reports that Iran is “preparing options” for attacks on American assets, officials reiterated President Donald Trump’s stance that “all options remain on the table.”

The message concluded with a direct directive to the regime: “Do not play games with President Trump.” The statement made clear that any aggression would be met with a “very, very powerful” response.

Escalating Rhetoric

The digital salvo is just the latest in a volatile back-and-forth between Washington and Tehran. Tensions have simmered since late December 2025, when anti-government protests swept across Iran. Reports indicate demonstrators have burned and vandalized mosques, while human rights watchdogs accuse the government of killing hundreds in a violent crackdown.

President Trump injected the U.S. into the crisis on January 2, warning that if the regime “kills peaceful protesters,” America would “come to their rescue.”

Tehran fired back with grim imagery. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei recently posted a graphic on X depicting Trump in a coffin. Simultaneously, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baagher Qalibaf declared that all American ships, bases, and military centers are “legitimate targets” should the U.S. initiate an attack.

Mixed Signals and Troop Movements

Despite the sabre-rattling this weekend, there were brief signs of de-escalation just days ago. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, President Trump suggested that Tehran was bowing to pressure, citing assurances that the violence against protesters was ending.

“We’ve been told that the killing in Iran is stopping — it’s stopped — it’s stopping,” Trump said, adding that he had it on “good authority” that there were no plans for executions.

However, the U.S. military isn’t taking chances. The New York Times reported that American troops have been relocated from a potentially vulnerable base in Qatar, signalling that the administration is preparing for any eventuality.

A Fragile Peace

The current standoff stands on the shaky foundation of last year’s conflict. The administration’s aggressive posture peaked on June 22, 2025, when an American strike force bombed multiple Iranian nuclear facilities to halt a perceived escalation toward war between Iran and Israel.

While Trump announced a successful ceasefire just two days later, the renewed threats suggest that the peace holding the region together is wearing thin.
