A 29-year-old Florida mom, Anni Gomez, is facing charges of child abuse and neglect after police say she beat her 9-year-old son and left her two younger children, including a 3-month-old baby, home alone for hours.

The investigation began after Gomez, of Miami, who was meeting a woman to buy tamales, unexpectedly asked the woman to babysit her children.

When the witness refused, Gomez allegedly abandoned her 9-year-old son anyhow and left the area in an Uber, according to the arrest report.

The witness noticed injuries on the boy. After encouraging him, the child told police his mother “hits me with her phone on the head and beats me daily.” The 9-year-old was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and treated for a black eye, bruises, and scratches.

Detectives later discovered Gomez’s 7-year-old and 3-month-old children had been left unsupervised for several hours at her apartment on Northwest 7th Street.

Gomez was arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
