TAMPA, Fla. – Folks will need to dodge some raindrops today, but the real story is the dramatic temperature roller coaster set to unfold over the next few days. While showers are likely to stick around until mid-morning, a breezy northwest wind is ushering in a much colder air mass. Temperatures are expected to fall throughout the afternoon, settling near 63 degrees by dinner time with gusts reaching up to 28 mph.

The chill deepens significantly overnight. As the clouds clear out, the mercury will drop to 39 degrees, setting the stage for a very crisp Monday morning.

Even with full sunshine, tomorrow will feel more like late autumn than spring; wind chill values are expected to hover around freezing early in the day, with a projected high of only 54 degrees. Monday night looks to be the coldest of the week, with a dead-calm wind allowing temperatures to hit the 32-degree mark.

A gradual recovery begins on Tuesday, though the cold start will lead to patchy frost across the region late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Once that frost thaws, the warming trend takes off in earnest. Wednesday afternoon should see a high near 71 degrees under sunny skies, followed by an even warmer Thursday as the thermometer climbs toward 78 degrees.

By the time the weekend arrives, the weather will have done a complete 180-degree turn. Friday and Saturday are both expected to feel quite warm, with highs reaching the low 80s.

While the sun will remain a fixture for most of the week, humidity will start to creep back in by Friday evening. This change in the air brings a 20 to 30 percent chance of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms to close out the week on Saturday.
