The UN Security Council on Monday approved a US-drafted resolution aimed at creating a more sustainable peace in Gaza, providing international backing for a comprehensive post-conflict framework. The resolution includes the establishment of a transitional governance body dubbed the “Board of Peace” (BoP) and authorizes the deployment of a multinational International Stabilization Force (ISF).

The US-sponsored measure, which passed with a vote of 13-0 with abstentions from China and Russia, is built upon President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for the territory. It seeks to formalize the arrangements for demilitarization, reconstruction, and interim governance following the end of the conflict.

Trump to Chair New Transitional Authority

A centerpiece of the resolution is the creation of the Board of Peace, a transitional authority mandated to oversee the critical processes of disarmament and reconstruction until the end of 2027.

Shortly after the vote, President Trump took to his social media platform to announce his intention to chair the new body, which he said will include “the most powerful and respected Leaders throughout the World.” The BoP is tasked with coordinating humanitarian aid, facilitating Gaza’s development, and supporting a Palestinian “technocratic” committee responsible for the day-to-day civil administration.

Disarmament and Future Statehood

A key provision of the resolution, reflecting a core Israeli demand, is the mandate for the International Stabilization Force to oversee the disarmament of Hamas and other non-state armed groups in Gaza.

The ISF will be authorized to use all necessary measures to carry out its mandate, including securing borders and ensuring the permanent decommissioning of weapons.
