Unmanned Aircraft Crash On Cemex Property Triggers Emergency Response In Brooksville

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Emergency crews responding to reports of a plane crash in Hernando County on Thursday afternoon discovered the downed craft was actually an unmanned drone.

Units from Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched shortly before 4 p.m. to the 14000 block of Citrus Way.

Upon searching the area, HCFR drone operators spotted the crash site situated on property owned by Cemex.

According to Hernando County Fire Rescue, the unmanned aerial vehicle caught fire following the impact, but the flames did not spread to the surrounding ground or structures.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Officials have not released details on the owner of the drone or the cause of the crash.
