A medical emergency is cited as the cause of the fiery crash that shut down the I-4/I-275 interchange, with a diesel spill and structural damage.
TAMPA, Fla. – The major traffic disruption caused by a semi-truck crash on Wednesday has come to an end, with all lanes of the I-4 and I-275 interchange now open to traffic. The full reopening comes after an extensive closure that was prompted by a fiery crash, a significant diesel spill, and structural damage to the roadway.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) have confirmed that all remaining closed lanes, including the northbound lanes of I-275, are now accessible. This development marks the conclusion of a complex emergency response and cleanup operation that began Wednesday evening.

The incident was caused by a 61-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer who suffered a medical emergency, leading to a collision that set the truck on fire. One patient was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The accident had forced the complete closure of all lanes on I-4 westbound and both northbound and southbound lanes of I-275 for several hours as fire crews extinguished the blaze and cleanup crews worked to address a large diesel spill and structural concerns.

The reopening of all lanes is a major relief for commuters who have faced significant delays since the crash. Authorities advise that traffic in the area should now return to normal flow.
