The military conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran escalated sharply on Wednesday as the war entered its fifth day of active hostilities. Israeli defense officials confirmed the launch of a new “broad wave” of aerial strikes across Iranian territory, specifically aimed at the nation’s top leadership and internal security command centers.

The intensification follows a Tuesday briefing from President Donald Trump, who claimed that Iran’s primary defensive capabilities have been significantly compromised.

The President stated that the Iranian air force and navy had been “knocked out” during the coordinated operations. Supporting this assessment, the U.S. military reported the destruction of 17 Iranian naval vessels and confirmed that nearly 2,000 separate targets have been hit since the start of the campaign.

As the fighting expands, the U.S. State Department has begun closing several embassies and reducing diplomatic personnel throughout the Middle East. This move has triggered a scramble among American citizens currently in the region to secure evacuation.

The human cost of the five-day conflict is also beginning to emerge.

According to a U.S.-based human rights group tracking the situation, more than 1,000 people have been killed in Iran since the initial outbreak of violence on Saturday. The group noted that the death toll includes several children.
