A U.S. Marshals Task Force, including members of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, successfully apprehended a man wanted on serious child sexual assault charges out of Texas during an operation Friday morning in DeFuniak Springs.

Christopher Lynn Bowles, 42, a fugitive from Tyler, Texas, was located and taken into custody without incident at a residence on Coy Burgess Loop.

According to authorities, Bowles was wanted on nationwide extradition warrants issued by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Texas. The warrants detail charges for sexual assault of a child and continuous sexual assault of a child under 14 years old.

Investigators determined that Bowles was staying in the DeFuniak Springs area with his current girlfriend in an effort to evade justice. The swift action of the U.S. Marshals Task Force brought an end to his flight from the law.

Following his arrest, Bowles was booked into a Florida jail. He is currently being held pending the extradition process, which will see him transported back to Texas to face the grave charges filed against him.
