Campus Free Speech

US Reps. Cammack And Jordan Join Conservative Youth Group To Take On Liberal Campus Speech Police

Florida U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack is leading a new effort to call attention to left-wing campus speech police.

Cammack, a Gainesville Republican, and Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican and founder of the House Freedom Caucus, have allied with the conservative Young America’s Foundation to establish the Campus Free Speech Caucus within the U.S. House of Representatives, according to the YAF blog.

The caucus will work to educate other lawmakers about the clear liberal bias against free speech on college campuses. It will also help bring national and local awareness to how this is practiced within their districts.

YAF notes Cammack and Jordan will huddle with its leadership and conservative students each month to uncover the most recent attacks on speech and share that intel with other members of Congress.

“I’m so thrilled to be leading the Campus Free Speech Caucus with my colleague and friend Rep. Jim Jordan,” Cammack said in a statement.

“Together with YAF, we’re sending the message that free speech is not only a constitutional right but also a core freedom that must be preserved on college campuses across the country.”

“At a time when university leadership and students are caving to the pressure of liberal progressivism,” she added, “my colleagues in Congress will stand up for the First Amendment and ensure all have the right to exercise their thoughts and ideas freely and without persecution.”

Cammack’s district includes the University of Florida.

In his own statement, Jordan added, “The First Amendment is under attack on campuses across the country. Every day, students and faculty are forced to self-censor out of fear that they will be ‘canceled’ by the mob.”

“The Campus Free Speech Caucus, led by Rep. Kat Cammack and inspired by YAF,” he continued, “will work with Congress to push back on ‘woke’ cancel culture and defend freedom for Americans everywhere.”

Young America’s Foundation President Scott Walker, the former governor of Wisconsin, noted in prepared remarks, “Free speech is guaranteed in our Constitution. It should be revered on our college campuses. Sadly, this is where it’s most at risk.”

“The Campus Free Speech Caucus will help us fight back and ensure all voices can be heard on campus!”
