USF Bulls Hunt First-Ever Road Win Against No. 20 Miami Hurricanes

TAMPA, Fla. — South Florida baseball is heading south to Coral Gables this Wednesday for a high-stakes midweek showdown against the No. 20-ranked Miami Hurricanes. The matchup, set for 6:00 p.m. at Mark Light Field, pits a scrappy Bulls squad against a Miami team currently holding a spot in the Perfect Game Top 25.

The Bulls (25-10, 6-6 American) are looking to flip the script on a difficult piece of program history, as they have never won a road game against the Hurricanes.

Meanwhile, Miami (27-9, 8-7 ACC) enters the contest with momentum after clinching a series win over Wake Forest, capped off by a dominant 8-0 shutout on Sunday. South Florida is coming off a tough road trip to San Antonio, where they dropped two of three games to UTSA.

While Miami leads the all-time series 4-2, the Bulls can point to their most recent meeting in 2021 as a source of confidence. That 10-2 victory was a pivotal moment in South Florida’s run to a Super Regional berth. This year, the Bulls have been particularly effective in midweek games, boasting a 6-2 record in those contests.

Statistically, the game features two of the most efficient “small ball” offenses in the country. South Florida currently leads the nation with 30 sacrifice flies, while Miami sits right behind them, tied for second with 26.

Keep an eye on Jevin Relaford, who ranks in the top 20 nationally with 22 stolen bases, and Lance Trippel, who carries a team-best 19-game reached base streak into Wednesday. The Bulls’ recipe for success has been simple this year: they are a perfect 19-0 when scoring six or more runs and 12-2 in games where they hit at least one home run.

Fans attending the game will experience a “1970s Night” promotion at the ballpark. For those following from home, the game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available through official team channels.
