TAMPA, Fla. – It was during 2022 preseason camp when former USF coach Jeff Scott described a freshman quarterback from Raleigh as being an “All-American” kid with an “All-American” smile.

Byrum Brown, an aspiring orthodontist, certainly has a mega-watt smile. He also had quite a resume of success on the gridiron at USF, one that is certain to attract several potential suitors now that he is in the transfer portal, which he announced via social media Monday afternoon.

Brown, who sat out the Bulls’ Cure Bowl loss to Old Dominion last Wednesday, leads the nation in total offense, having piled up 347 yards per game, 13 more than Vanderbilt’s Heisman finalist, Diego Pavia.

As impressive as that is, fans of the green and gold will not soon forget a season in which Brown, with one season of eligibility remaining, became the 12th player in FBS history to pass for 3,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards in the same season.

Brown’s 28 touchdown passes this season broke his own single-season mark of 26 set in 2023.
