Vacation Turns Fatal: 5-Year-Old Georgia Twins Drown In Florida Rental Pool

A family trip from Georgia ended in disaster on Friday after two 5-year-old girls were found at the bottom of a Kissimmee vacation home pool.

First responders rushed to the rental house on Ruby Lane, a neighborhood tucked off Poinciana Boulevard near Oren Brown Road. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) said the twin girls were completely unresponsive when pulled from the water. Both children were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital, but medical staff was unable to save them. They were both later pronounced dead.

Investigators piecing together the timeline said the four adults staying at the rental property had left the house that morning to go pick up some food. They left a 15-year-old behind to watch the younger children. It was during this brief window that the twins ended up in the pool.

“Unfortunately, this is a tragedy,” said OCSO. “We want to remind people: pool safety is No. 1 this time of year, and a lot of the drownings and near drownings in the county occur in the rental properties.”

Homicide detectives are currently investigating the drowning to figure out exactly what happened. The local medical examiner’s office will make the final determination on the official cause of death.
