A week-long trial concluded with a guilty verdict in Volusia County as a jury found Jasmoray Baugh guilty of Manslaughter with a Firearm for the fatal shooting of the father of her child.

The tense trial and six hours of deliberation led to the conviction on Friday, stemming from a tragic, retaliatory incident on December 11, 2022.

Fatal Retaliation

The sequence of events began after the victim reportedly vandalized Baugh’s car. Instead of contacting authorities, Baugh escalated the situation dramatically. In the early morning hours, she sent the victim a chilling text message threatening to put him “under the ground.”

Baugh then drove around DeLand, actively searching for him. When she located the victim on West Chipola Avenue, she fired a weapon, striking him in the chest before speeding away. The victim tragically died from his injuries at the scene.

Self-Defense Claim Rejected

During the trial, Baugh took the stand and testified that she acted in self-defense. However, prosecutors successfully countered this claim using compelling evidence, including cell phone records, surveillance video, and witness statements that placed Baugh squarely in the area at the time of the shooting.

Assistant State Attorneys Nick Kramperth and Mike Willard successfully tried the case, which was investigated by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

“The defendant killed the victim for vandalizing her car,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said. “Her retaliation could cost her 30 years in prison. A sad testament to the human condition.”

The Honorable Karen Foxman, who presided over the case, has scheduled Baugh’s sentencing for November 5, 2025. For the crime of Manslaughter with a Firearm, Baugh faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in state prison.
