VENICE, Fla. – Sarasota Sheriff’s Office detectives have finally shuttered a nearly year-long search for answers, booking a Venice resident into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility this week. Zachary Bolin, 32, was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday, March 11, facing a charge of Homicide: ‘Murder Dangerous Depraved without Premeditation.’
The case dates back to the early morning hours of April 22, 2025. Deputies first arrived at the 3900 block of South Tamiami Trail around 1:56 a.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive man lying on the sidewalk.
Upon arrival, they discovered Patrick Alan Warrick, 42, suffering from gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and abdomen. Despite the efforts of first responders, Warrick was pronounced dead less than an hour later, at 2:31 a.m.

While the arrest comes months after the initial shooting, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office noted that detectives have spent the intervening time utilizing various investigative methods to build a case for prosecution. Both the suspect and the victim were residents of Venice.
Bolin currently remains in jail as the legal process begins. Although an arrest has been made, officials confirmed that the investigation is still active.
They are urging anyone with potential leads or information regarding the night of the shooting to call the Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900.
