MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Vero Beach man faces a mandatory court appearance after a marine deputy caught him with six undersized spiny lobsters in the Florida Keys on Thursday, authorities said.
Robert Joseph Zakrewski, 31, was diving near the north end of the Channel Five Bridge on Aug. 27, 2026, when Middle Keys Marine Deputy Willie Guerra spotted him in the water, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon inspection, Deputy Guerra discovered Zakrewski had kept six lobsters that failed to meet state size limits.
The deputy issued Zakrewski a mandatory notice-to-appear citation for the wildlife violation.
State regulations require spiny lobster carapaces to measure greater than three inches, and divers must use a gauge to measure each catch while still in the water.
