A sharp spike in voter intensity has pushed President Donald Trump’s disapproval ratings to record-breaking territory this week. According to the latest tracking data from Morning Consult, strong disapproval among Democrats jumped 8 points in just one month, marking the single largest shift in sentiment since the start of his second term.
This surge has driven overall strong disapproval to 45.4%, the highest level recorded in 77 weeks of tracking. While the total number of people who oppose the President hasn’t necessarily grown, those who do are becoming significantly more entrenched.
Data shows a steady migration of voters moving from “somewhat” disapproving to “strongly” disapproving throughout 2026.

This trend is particularly notable for the upcoming midterm elections, as voters in the “strongly disapprove” category are historically much harder to win back than those in the middle.
The President’s net approval currently sits at -12, the second-lowest mark of 2026. Only the weeks leading up to his January 2025 inauguration saw worse numbers.
The decline comes as the administration faces a series of domestic and international headwinds. At the pump, Americans are now feeling the squeeze of $4.55 per gallon gas. On the global stage, Iran officially rejected a U.S. peace proposal on Sunday, calling the terms “totally unacceptable.”

Public confidence in the President’s handling of trade has also taken a hit, dropping 5 points over the last four weeks. Despite the dip, the President is scheduled to arrive in Beijing this Thursday.
He is bringing a high-powered delegation to the talks, including the CEOs of Boeing and Mastercard, in an attempt to shore up international economic relations.
